In a recent blog post we discussed why Yelp was going to become important to Australian businesses. Two months later it’s all here!

Apple has released their update to iOS (the operating system that runs iPhones and iPads). Yelp is now the default review system for the Map application on all of these updated devices.

So today, I’m going to give you a quick walk through of how it works and encourage you to have look at your listing on Yelp to ensure you are going to benefit from user searches.

When a user searches in the Map app or uses Siri (voice activated search on iPhones) to look for a business a range of results will come up.

In the screen shot here the search is for “Manly restaurants”. Tapping each pin shows you the star review and the number of user reviews on Yelp.

Clicking the blue icon takes the user to the Yelp view, still inside the Maps app.

Here, as can be seen in the screen shot below, important information on opening times, phone numbers and addresses, is displayed.

There is a tab to then read reviews from users on Yelp and view photos – which you as the business owner can manage.

It’s pretty compelling; if you own a business that is in anyway location based, you need to ensure that you are managing your profile, to keep your information updated and portray the best image for your business.
